Library History

Read how this library was established and how it has evolved to become such an important part of our community.

Hazel MetzgerThe Palmer Public Library was established in 1975 with the help of many volunteers. The first librarian was Hazel Metzger, she worked hard to start the library in Palmer. In 1981 Bernadette Howie became the librarian followed by Sally Butcher in 1983. Sally remained the Librarian until 2012.  Sally was able promote the library and help it along with technology advances like computers and the internet.  Sally's service time with the library is invaluable.  Ramona Miller took over the library in 2012, when Sally retired, and has picked up where Sally left off bringing in new technology and continues to update the library with the new amazing changes within the library world.
